Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, known professionally as Sarkodie, has waded into Ghana’s football timeless debates criticizing the selection criteria for player call-ups to the national teams.

According to the songwriter and entrepreneur, players must earn call-ups to national teams based strictly on their performance rather than predetermined arrangements or personal connections.

He anchored the belief that success at the highest-level demands players who can instantly demonstrate exceptional qualities to prove their inclusion in the Black Stars squad.

The national team has suffered heavy criticism following a disastrous start to the AFCON qualifying group stage including losses to Ivory Coast and Gambia, pressure is high on the team to get back on track.

In an interview on Ahenfie Full Time Sports, the music icon opined; ‘’When you talk about the Black Stars, I am so deep into it – I will not sit here and lie that I know the ins and outs of our football but looking from outside I think they pick players not based on what they can really exhibit [merit], but sometimes otherwise - who can really do the job is not what they are putting in there’’

Despite his personal favorite and love for the sport of boxing, Sarkodie sees Ghana football on a bigger scale and that he believes has strongly impacted his personal music career and the country on the international stage.

After the Black Stars struggles and difficult run of results, they tumbled to the bottom of Group C and subsequently Queiroz’s contract was mutually terminated by the GFA on October 1, 2026.

The coaching position therefore became vacant following Queiroz’s departure.

A five-member Technical Search Committee was constituted by the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to identify, assess and recommend a suitable coach for the vacant position.

Reports emerging from the association indicate that head Coach of Black Queens, Kim Lars could be tasked temporarily alongside other two local technicians [ Tanko and Attram ] to lead the Black Stars on interim basis ahead of 2027 AFCON qualifying double-header against Somalia in November.

The four-time African champions face Somalia next in matchdays 3 and 4 in the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The double-header against the ‘Ocean Stars’ of Somalia, both matches scheduled at the Accra Sports Stadium, provide a vital chance to stabilize their campaign and restore confidence among supporters, administrators, and political figures despite recent crises.

The 2027 AFCON tournament is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The hitmaker is set to perform in one of Africa’s most celebrated and high-energy Hip Hop brands "Rapperholic" concert, the second edition in Kumasi ‘Rapperholic26’ on Saturday October 24,2026.
