The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has increased the monthly allowance paid to its beneficiaries from GH¢500 to GH¢800, Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale has announced.

The adjustment forms part of measures to improve the welfare of beneficiaries and support young Ghanaians engaged in the agency’s employment programmes.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House today, Wednesday, October 21, Mr Basintale said the adjustment formed part of efforts to improve the welfare of young people participating in the Agency’s employment programmes.

He explained that the YEA recognised the importance of ensuring that employment interventions provided not only opportunities to work and acquire skills but also better support for beneficiaries who contribute to public services and other assigned

He disclosed that the YEA had recorded 100,628 beneficiaries as of 30 September 2026, representing 25.7 per cent of its annual target.

“I am particularly pleased to announce that since assuming office, we have increased beneficiary recruitment by 566.67% of the number we met. Under our stewardship, monthly beneficiaries’ allowance has been increased from 500 cedis to 800 cedis,” he said.

Mr Basintale explained that the expansion of the programme went beyond increasing beneficiary numbers, creating opportunities for young people to earn a livelihood and contribute to national development.

He acknowledged that challenges remained but said the Agency would continue to strengthen its payment arrangements, adding that beneficiary welfare would remain central to its operations
