Former midfielder of the Black Stars, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has earnestly cautioned the leadership of Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation against rushing the recruitment process of appointing head coach for the senior national team.

He firmly urged the association to make a prudent search for a candidate who has ‘deep understanding of Ghana's local football culture, realities and environment’

‘’The authorities should take their time in search of substantive coach for the Black Stars, one who is young, vibrant and full of energy, who also knows much about the local Ghanaian football culture and DNA’’ he told Ahenfie Sports.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz’s contract was mutually terminated on October 1, 2026, following a difficult run of results in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers - back-to-back defeats: a 2-0 loss to Côte d'Ivoire and a historic 4-2 defeat to The Gambia on home soil surrendering a 2–0 lead.

The coaching position has therefore become vacant following Queiroz’s departure.

A five-member Technical Search Committee was constituted by the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to identify, assess and recommend a suitable coach for the vacant position, – deadline extended to October 15, 2026, with interviews and evaluations running through October and November.

Badu emphasized that the search for a suitable candidate must center around one who understands the realities and challenges of Ghana’s domestic football league and ‘not rely on past glories ‘and foreign coaches.

‘’The committee should go all out, be open and truthful to the new manager about the challenges we face as a football nation - inadequate pitches, training facilities and more’’

‘’The new coach should also understand all the challenges and accept the terms and conditions before signing a contract’’

He also expressed contentment with the committee’s idea that ‘’the candidate must reside in the country and be monitoring Ghana's topflight league football’’

‘’For the timing, the extension is in the right direction, we are not in a rush, we must take our time’’, the former Ghana International welcomed extension of the committee’s deadline for application for the vacant position to October 15, 2026

The five-member Technical Search Committee was expected to submit its report to the GFA by Friday, October 9.
