Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, Founder and President of Breast Care International and Chief Executive Officer of Peace and Love Hospitals, has urged women to prioritise regular breast examinations and seek early medical attention, warning that fear and embarrassment should not prevent them from protecting their health.

She explained that breast cancer may not cause pain or obvious symptoms in its early stages, urging women not to wait until they experience pain before seeking medical attention. She stressed that early detection is crucial to improving treatment outcomes.

Speaking on Anopa Ahenfie, hosted by Kofi Tuwohofo on Ahenfie TV/FM, Dr Wiafe Addai said the exact cause of breast cancer remains unknown, although certain inherited genetic factors can increase a person's risk of developing the disease.

She also debunked the misconception that breast size determines the risk of developing breast cancer, explaining that the disease can affect women with both large and small breasts. She encouraged women to become familiar with their breasts and promptly report unusual changes, including lumps, swelling and changes in the skin or nipples, to health professionals.

Dr Wiafe Addai also challenged the belief that sucking the breasts prevents cancer, urging the public to rely on accurate medical information rather than misconceptions.

Highlighting the importance of educating young people about breast cancer, she referred to a reported case of a 13-year-old breast cancer patient in Ghana. She urged young people to take breast health seriously and encouraged women of all ages to seek professional medical advice whenever they notice unusual changes.
